Turning 21 is simply about love. Not and ordinary love however. The type of love and excitement for your offspring that looms so tall and wide that it takes the global village to get and keep arms around her so that when she takes those first steps into the world on her own, you can sit back and watch the blooming resting assured that you, as parents and members of the village, did a good thing. This song celebrates that type of love for community and the infallible truism that everything must change. The pain a parent feels when in the eyes of your child, you are no longer cool and they have to be unleashed to make a go at this precious short gift called life now has a theme song. Someone's someone can finally rest and say job well done.
I wrote this song in the hallway in about ten minutes one night while waiting to go on stage at a birthday party my kinfolk was throwing for his daughter- Boom
lyrics
Someone's someone is turning twenty-one And someone's someone's job's almost done
Someone's someone is growing too fast While someone's someone is stuck in the past
I can't believe that she was just a tiny seed not long ago
She's got her mother's smile and papa he's so proud but can't let go
He can't let go Because she's someone special
Because she's someone special
She's always been so special
And now she's someone special
Someone's someone is turning twenty-one Watch out, look out, world, here she comes
Someone's someone is finding her voice and someone's someone ain't got no choice
I can't believe that she was just a tiny seed not long ago
She's got her mother's smile and papa he's so proud but can't let go
He can't let go
Because she's someone special
Because she's someone special
She's always been so special
And now she's someone special
Take a look around and you'll see the love there It ain't new, baby, cause it's always been
And now she's somebody You, you know you are, yes you are, you've always been
Oh, oh, oh, yeah, yeah, now, now, now She's always been, yeah, oh
She's so special in my life Oh, oh, yeah, now, yeah, now
And now she's someone special
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Someone's someone is turning twenty-one
So watch out, look out, world, here she comes
